Brecht, a well-known TV presenter, goes in search of his youth in
the fifties and sixties. Together with his first love and the best
friend of his youth.
Brecht rediscovers the small village community where he grew up.
The village philosopher Peter the liar, who initiated Brecht and
his friends into the mysteries of life, still seems to have mysterious
powers after all these years.
In
"Tales of a Liar" we accompany Brecht both in the present
and in the past in his search for his lost youth, his lost village
and the striking personalities that inhabited it.
"Tales
of a Liar" is "Heimat" television of a level seldom
seen. "Tales of a Liar" starts out from a local setting
to broach universal themes in the end such as eternal youth, lost
love and nonsense of our economic progress. What does life do with
people and what do people do with life ?
The
series combines mystery, humour, romance, melancholy and thriller
elements in a unique way. Nostalgia and fantasy are singulary interwoven
into this exciting series.
