Ellen Vanderlaan just graduated with the highest grade point average
in her class. Now she can pretty much do what she wants... so she
goes to Spitsbergen, close to the Northpole, to spend a year living
with a furtrapper named Lars!
In
one of the few places in the world where nature still rules, Ellen
quickly realises she has to adapt if she is going to survive. Lars
is not exactly the rugged frontiersman she expected.
Poor
communication and the fact that Lars is constantly trying to bed
the only woman he has seen for over a year, create an atmosphere
in the wooden hut that is as icy as the temperature outside.
However,
as time passes, Ellen teaches Lars English and the finer points
of basic housekeeping. In return, Lars teaches Ellen how to skin
seals and drive a team of sledge huskies.
Soon she realises that Lars' life is as pure as life can get.
